Boulder has the best access to lift of any site on the Front Range. See Kevin Cousineaus's article in the March 2004 issue of Soaring magazine about Mile High Gliding and Soaring in the Boulder area. Also take a look at Bob Whelan's article in the January 1998 issue of Soaring magazine. Thermals can go to 18,000', Wave to 30,000' (in FAA Window). Convergence and Ridge currents abound West of the field in the foothills starting just 4 miles away. Between Feb 1 and Jul 31, however, a local bird protection group asks that pilots limit their ridge soaring of the East faces of the Flatirons.
